Sharing Your VPN via NetShare

Learn how to route your protected VPN connection through NetShare to other devices on your local network.

How It Works

By default, when a VPN is active, it blocks local network traffic to protect your data. However, apps like NetShare require local device communication to tether your connection. To make them work together, you must enable Local Network Sharing or LAN Discovery inside your VPN application settings.

Important: Make sure both your VPN app and NetShare are updated to their latest versions before proceeding.

Example 1: NordVPN

NordVPN includes a specific toggle to allow local network devices to see and connect through your device.

  1. Open the NordVPN app on your Android device.
  2. Tap the Settings gear icon (usually located in the top-right corner of the map screen).
  3. Select Connection or look for advanced settings.
  4. Find the option labeled LAN Discovery (or Allow local network visibility) and toggle it ON.
  5. Connect to your preferred NordVPN server, then launch NetShare and start sharing.

Example 2: Proton VPN

Proton VPN provides a similar feature to permit local peer-to-peer and device communication while connected to a secure tunnel.

  1. Open the Proton VPN app.
  2. Tap the Settings tab at the bottom right.
  3. Scroll down to the Connection section.
  4. Enable the toggle for Allow LAN connections.
  5. Establish your VPN connection, and then open NetShare to share the network with your other devices.
